I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported the making of 365Cairns and all those people who followed the project day by day.
It was an interesting and tough year with lots of ups and downs and finally I can sit back relieved.
2 years ago I noticed how much the things surrounding us could tell! Colours, shapes, formations, textures, location, size and style. All objects reflected something for me, they all wanted to share their own stories... 365Cairns have tried to showcase the amazing, never before seen world of letterboxes across the region of Cairns.
During the year of 2012 I've got 323 comments on the website and much more on Facebook and on Twitter. The most liked letterbox was the naughty Ned Kelly from Trinity Beach (No.133). Many online mediums have referred back to my site, I gave an interview to the Cairns Post, held a live presentation on the 5th Pecha Kucha Night and the project has been shortlisted for the Australian ArtsHub award 2012.
By the end I've almost crossed the 2000 km line on my pushbike while searching for these amazing objects. I took the first photo at Palm Cove on 14.06.2011 (No.63) and the last one at Edmonton on 11.12.2012 (No.362) During this time I made 721 photos on 34 hot, sunny and tropical rainy days, there was one day when I took only 2 shots after pedalling 114 km-s.
I had deflated tyres, lost few pens and my favourite water bottle. I was sent away by an angry road worker and there were many people, who invited me to take a photo of their unique letterbox. I invested into special gear, met mad dogs and curious postmen, and all these unforeseen circumstances made this project an adventure.
Beyond question 365Cairns was the biggest art project in my life so far. In the last 18 months this venture determined my days, still 365Cairns doesn't end here: on Facebook I will keep everyone updated about the future of this project.
